Question for licensed cosmetologists or scientists on gray hair.?

I’m in my 40s and starting to get gray hairs on my head. What I’m wondering is that it seems that I keep pulling out grey hairs and it always seems like I have more grey hairs the next day and they are almost always full length.

So, my question is this…do the gray hairs on a person’s head lose their colors, or is it that replacement hairs start out gray?

The hair that already exists on your head cannot just magically turn grey. A grey hair was grey when it poked through your scalp. Try getting some sort of highlight or lowlight to contrast the color of your hair if the grey is still subtle…

the old saying is every gray hair you lose two gray hairs replace it. get some good hair color and fix it. everybody else does. get a shade lighter than your natural color.

The hair that is growing in will be gray.The existing hair will not become gray. Your hair loses pigment known as melanin, as you age. or brcause of certain health conditions.,some young people get gray hair,but the majority of gray hair shows up as we age. The hair that you keep finding is probably just hair thats been but you didnt realize.A suggestion would be blonde highlights ,it will blend in the grays so they look like the highlight.Then as your roots grow it will blend with the lighter colors in your hair

Hair color is the result of pigmentation due to the presence of the chemicals of melanin. The change in hair color is caused by the gradual decrease of pigmentation that occurs when melanin ceases to be produced in the hair root, and new hairs grow in without pigment. The stem cells at the base of hair follicles are responsible for producing melanocytes, the cells that produce and store pigment in hair and skin. The death of the melanocyte stem cells causes hair to begin going grey.

also, I’d advise you to stop pulling out your hair one by one. it seems its not going to stop or slow anytime soon, so, maybe look for gray covering hair dye. and if your worried about your hairs health, they have hair dye that doesnt have many chemicals in it. good luck.. if you need it. personally, I don’t think gray hair is unattractive in men or women, so don’t worry too much, you may get another gray. just joking. you’ll be fine.
