psoriasis help?

I have had psoriasis on my scape for as long as I can remember. I’m starting to lose my hair becuase of it, and at age 18 thats pretty embarassing. I started using rogaine but I realized that it only worsened my psoriasis and even made my hair fall out more (something its not supposed to do, im certain). I use two shampoos for it, they help for one day, but it usuals comes back the next day. What are some recommendations for long-term relief and hair restoration?

You’re probably going to require the services of a dermatologist. There are no effective over-the-counter treatments for psoriasis. I’m currently using Enbrel (highly expensive). Try using tar shampoo for your hair. It should help with the scalp problems.

my 16 yr old son has it too and it drives me crazy with the big lump of skin so i went to a dr and he told me to get Psoriasis shampoo plus conditioner you ca get it at walmart for like 8 dollers its helped him out alot and even helps with the skin iratation and his hair is shiny and stronger

I own my own business and I specialize with problem skin. I make all the products myself by hand and they are all natural based ingredients. I have a cream that is for psoriasis and eczema. My 16 year old son has chronic eczema and he has been to a lot of dermatologist and they all prescribe steroid medications that are not healthy for your skin. yer its pretty bad and can get you really down iv had it for about 5yrs and have tried a few different things and sometimes that’s the best thing 2 do what i find works for me is getting the tar shampoo of the doctor and while I’m there i get Dovobet Cream 60grams for my skin and what i do is get the cream put aload on the scape before i go to bed to let it all soak into the psoriasis then the next day i use some DEAD SEA SALT in the bath for my body and i usually duck my head under for a bit as well then when you get out of the bath use some DEAD SEA SALT CREAM and put your dressing gown on then wash your hair with the tar and you can get some dead sea salt mud to go on your scalp that eases the itching, it might seem alot but it keeps it at bay for me in the winter some people go and use a sunbed but please do try different things and find whats best for you

I’ve had psoriasis on my scalp since I was 17 (I’m 30 now). I’ve never heard of it being connected with hair loss, but that’s not to say that it can’t happen.

Have you seen a dermatologist? You really should if you haven’t recently. There are *tons* of new treatments and medications that you can use that will put your psoriasis into remission. Over the counter stuff usually isn’t strong enough and now they have pills and shots that you can take along with UV therapy that will help if your dr thinks that’s what you need.

Also, you may want to see a regular doctor and get your thyroid checked as hair loss can be a sign of an improperly functioning thyroid (which I also have). If your hair loss is due to that, once your thyroid levels are stable then your hair should come back.

Ask your mom if there’s any premature balding in the males on her side of the family because it may be a genetic thing not fully related to the psoriasis. Regardless, your dermatologist should be able to recommend some treatments.
