Is finasteride (propecia) drug safe?

I have had hair replacement surgery: 6 months ago. I am prescribed to take finasteride/propecia for baldness by my hair replacement physician. However, I bought it online through an international pharmacy based at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories based in India. I looked them up on the Internet and it looks safe. (I read the Wikipedia article on the company) I notice that when I take the drug my hair looks thicker and fuller. I really hate to give it up.

I bought the 5 mg finasteride. However, I don’t take the full pill. I take very miniscule part of the tablet. I notice that after I take the drug, I have a very increased heart rate (really fast). I am little unsure if thinking about side effects of the drug makes me nervous.

I’ve taken the pill for weeks and nothing has happened, but wonder if it safe for me to continue to take this drug. Does anyone have any experiences about it?

I never noticed an increased rate, but I was using name brand propecia from a regular local pharmacy.. I would be a bit skeptical of anything coming from India, some people will do anything for a buck.. Maybe swap to the local pharmacy stuff for a while and see if its any different.

Also try Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo, people on hair loss sites vouch for it as far as making your hair feel better and stronger and healthier if you think you are experiencing hair loss. It is the only shampoo I use any more except for Nizoral, another good hair loss shampoo.

most of the research out there says it is pretty safe. A few people experience some sexual side effects.

Look it up on WebMD, sign in as "other" under the column for professionals. Or, ask a local pharmacist for the physician leaflet that is usually detached from the patient leaflets that accompany the drug.Any one should give it to you, no need for your Rx to be bought there.
It’s a bit daunting for non-medical personell, however, there are entire paragraphs that address side effects experienced in clinical trials.
I have learned to do this because I seem to fall into the "rare" side effect category of everything I take. In other words, my physiology is acutely reactive, and I need to know this information.
Also, an herb called Milk Thistle is immensly helpful in aiding the body to process these medicines, thereby eliminating many side effects.
For example, I can’t take the antibiotic Augmentin without being kept awake all night with my feet in constant motion, unless I take the Milk Thistle with it.
My local health food store has some pretty knowleadgeable people there, they taught me this, and it may take away your side effects too. If "tachycardia" is listed among the side effects of your drug, then that’s what’s up, & it can be dangerous as well as uncomfortable.
You may need an on line medical dictionary for some of the language of the side effects, but it is well worth it to research it. BTW, Thisylin is the brand I prefer, it is the actual brand of Milk Thistle studied in clinical trials in Europe many years ago, and is pretty great for this sort of thing. Ask your health food store for someone knowledgeable to find out how much to take, some meds I need lots of it, but it always helps.
