So I’m black, born and lived in Africa till i was 13. On the issue of hair … when ever I transition from ‘long hair’ [braids] to my own short hair people are perplexed by this. I’m an architecture student at a private predominately white population. So most of my girl-friends don’t understand how my hair works. I have explained and they get the jist of it but most of them tell me i look better with long hair so keep it.

When they say this [to me its the equivalence of] ‘Oh you took your implants out?! Your boobs look so much better with them in.’ I feel so fake wearing braids, i wear them so my hair gets a rest from relaxing it and stuff and during winter because its warmer.

I was wondering how other black girls felt about this? do you ever get sick and tired of explaining how your hair works to your friends of other races and how do you deal with it?
