At just 22 years old my son is rapidly losing his hair and is beside himself.?

Someone told him there is little you can do to keep your hair if you are on your way to
baldness. He has looked into a couple things but will not go through hair restoration
in the way of having his scalp sliced and hair implanted. Some say Rogaine will not
work. There are many bald men including actors and superstars which makes him
think there is really no cure for baldness since these individuals can well afford to
have hair restored if they chose to. Luckily he is a rather good looking guy with
beautiful eyes. I told him it doesn’t matter, but of course he says it does at this
age. Are there any bald men out there in the age group 20-40 that can give him
any advice? He’s getting pretty down about this as every day he seems to lose
more hair.
My grandfather was bald. At what age it happened, I don’t know. That would be his great-grandfather. Also one
of his grandfather’s has very little hair on top.

You don’t have to look far in Hollywood to see that bald men are sexy. Men who live in denial and try to grow a small bit of hair from the side and comb it over are not hot.

Rogaine helps slow the loss for some. He can try it for three weeks to find out.

Propecia helps for some. It is a prescription medicine that costs about $3 a day.

The rest are unproven snake-oil designed to take his money.

If there is not a history of hair loss like this in the family, he should see a dermatologist. Such hair loss that is not genetic can be caused by other reasons that are treatable.

Remind him that women love Sean Connery, Bruce Willis, Denzel Washington, and every military man.

I heard the more a man jerks off the quicker he will lose his hair, he needs a woman, because her estrogen will counter balance the hair loss

I was just 17 when I began to lose my hair. Back then there was no magic formula to play with. I just took it in stride and let nature take its course.

Now I am over the hill with a chrome dome and some peach fuzz on the side.

Look on the bright side. Will save some money. No more shampoo to buy.

I’m only asking this to try and help. But, does baldness seem to run in the family on either side? If so, there isn’t much that can be done about it.

However, I took my brother out of an institution a few years ago. He had been neglected in the years he had spent there. One thing I noticed too, was that he was loosing hair in the crown area. Something NONE of the men on either side of the family had happen to them, even in old age!! Our own father passed away at 80 with a thick and full head of silver and black hair. Even at 80, he still hadn’t lost all the color. There was still a lot of dark mixed with his silver.

My brother wasn’t being fed well at the home. They claimed he didn’t WANT to eat. I had read where anorexics have hair loss. And, once he was with me, I found out my brother wanted to eat, very much so. And, once I started giving him regular meals, I noticed his hair not only stopped falling out, but, the bald patches even started to grow back in and were completely covered after only about 4 months!

I’m only telling you this because most people think anorexia is only a disease woman subject themselves to. But, surprisingly, there are many men who are anorexic too. So please be sure your son isn’t one of THEM.

I had a friend once, who would spit every mouthful of food out into a napkin, hiding it from her husband for over a year. Her weight loss and hair loss were unbelievable. He had NO clue she was doing this. So, if your son is a healthy weight and you see him eating well, that is not the problem either. I just wanted you to know these things so you could make sure of it.

Since he’s taking his hair loss so badly, I wondered if he also concerned himself so badly about getting fat too. I hope it is not his problem. You can’t die from going bald, but, anorexia is another very big and serious problem. God bless.

A buddy of mine went thru that and as his features were pretty strong, he just shaved his head as if it were a choice, not a necessity. Everyone loved it and he grew facial hair that balanced it all out..this was at 27.

Yeah, my husband lost his hair around that time too. He just shaved it all off and grew a beard. He’s pretty damn sexy as far as I’m concerned. Although I did not know him at that time (he’s 33 and I’ve only known him for 5 years), I’m sure he had some insecurities about the whole process as well. But he certainly came out of it confident. He even started a clothing line which caters to bald men:

As I am sure you know, he just needs to accept and be proud of who he is. The "right" people (that includes women!) will be attracted to his energy & his confidence, not his hairline.

Most celebrities who are bald, going bald or choose to shave their heads can often get away with it and don’t care what people think. If you really want to see bad hair-plant jobs that look like they’ve been spray-painted on, just look at John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

But I have to wonder…why would you or your son care about what a celebrity does with their hair?

Look around at the world! Have him see a dermatologist. Have him talk to his regular doctor.

I started losing my hair in my 20′s due to poor health…and I am a woman. I tend to deal with it as is. My hair started to turn white at that age too. This isn’t just a man’s problem.

Rogaine does work for many people. There are also other products/prescriptions. He can also talk to his barber who may have a different insight into this.

Please let him now that it’s not something he needs to freak out about. There are worse things to have happen, I assure you. The more he worries, the more stress he has…and that is not good for his body.

He can suggest to his doctor about the hair loss and have some tests run to make sure he is healthy, that his thyroid and other organs are fine and his hormone levels are stable. Look at various deficiencies too. This could be medical or stress related. Look at everything.

If none of these is the case and it’s just natural….then he’s going to have to get some self esteem and deal with it. Women go out with a man for himself…not his hair.
