Am I being an irresponsible wife?

Little background. Married 7 months. I brought some $$ into the marriage and would like to pay off a cc bill with it. Husband is laid off. Has been laid off for almost 4 months and is not actively persuing work.
He spent his severance package on hair restoration and paid his cc bills leaving him with a few thousand to hold him over until he finds work. It looks like he will be going back to school. I want to take my $$ and pay off the bill but what if he doesn’t find work for a while and we need that money?

It sounds as though you have one of those kinds of marriages where ‘what’s mine is mine, and what’s yours is yours’. Nothing wrong with it really, there are plenty of folks who live this way and are very happy……… (personally, I always thought of marriage as a ‘partnership’, but I’m divorced, so I might not be the best one to ask).
Anyway, do whth you money what you want to….he did the same with his.

Hair plugs, huh? Thought about it a bunch of times, never had the balls (or money) to do it. Kinda glad I didn’t now.

Pay off your credit card bills. Don’t wait; do it now. Otherwise, you will fritter this little windfall away, your credit debt will grow and you’ll be in a much worse position than before.

(and who the heck uses their severence package for hair restoration??? If he goes back to school, he’s dumping you – heads up luv!)

Talk to your husband and see if you can prod him into looking for a job. Even if it’s only part time, something is better than nothing.

Look at it this way–with a CC paid off, you won’t be paying the interest any more. If worse comes to worst, the CC will be available for use, but right now saving the interest is probably smarter.

You need to pay off the bill. He needs to actively look for work even if he does go back to school.

You are being very responsible by paying off your credit card bill (it has high interest). Your husband needs to get off his butt and actively pursue work for one thing and another thing is he should not have run out and blown a severance check on hair restoration but instead should have put that money in the bank to help pay the bills while he is unemployed.

I think I would keep that money on the side for now just in case you need it. It is more important to have food in your belly and a roof over your head than paying off that cc at the moment.

Well you need to pay your bill. He sounds like a loser he spent that money on hair restoration what a loser. And instead of coming on here crying why dont you get a job, ever think of that. Stupid.

It sounds to me that your husband is the irresponsible one.

Out of work, spend his severence on himself while hes outof work.

And hes going back to school? Maybe he should take it easy and help pay some bills off if money is bleeding from his pores.

I would tell his bald ass to get a job so he can help pay for that rug he’s got on his scalp and add to the household. He can do school part time, you just keep on working

Why do you ask if you are being an irresponsible wife when he did not care that he was being an irresponsible husband?

Do with your money what you like. He did.

Let him know that he has to contribute monetarily to the marriage just like you do (you work right?). Hopefully he is also receiving unemployment? It’s not much but it’s something. You can still get it even with severance pay.

I was in that same position. Just two months after we married he was laid off, they closed the business. It seemed like he was not looking, but most jobs you apply for on line now so it is not the same. He was off for about 5 months and had to take a big cut in pay, but bills get paid and we get by. Save your savings for as you need to get things paid… I had paid off some of his bills and wish that we had only paid about half on some to save more for other needs. You are being a strong wife… I know on a new marriage how hard all that is… our love kept us strong and happy. While my husband was home he also did all the housework and cooking so that was nice for me. Good luck… you are not alone.
